Dog At Shelter Clings To Owner’s Leg Aware He Will Soon Be Left Behind

“He looked at me shocked that I would want to touch him at all.”

When Chrissy arrived at a nearby shelter to pick up pets for her organization, Forgotten Now Family Rescue, she saw an elderly dog in the corner clutching to its owner’s leg. Chrissy’s heart shattered even more when she discovered that the dog’s owner was going to have it put down. The dog had obviously been neglected and appeared quite afraid.

Chrissy said to The Dodo, “He was covered in flea dirt and the infection stench was filling the lobby.”

Chrissy made a choice at that very moment. She could never have left the dog—later named Seymour—to face his fate on his own. Chrissy made the decision to take him with her since she could tell by the look in his eyes that he wasn’t done fighting yet.

“He was immediately thankful for me,” Chrissy said. “He looked at me shocked that I would want to touch him at all.”

Seymour was taken in by Chrissy as a foster dog because he was eighteen years old and had been mistreated. In the hopes that the growths and tumors on his body could be removed, she took him to the veterinarian to be examined and given care. All efforts were directed towards enhancing Seymour’s comfort throughout his last days, weeks, or months. Nobody believed Seymour had much time left, yet he disproved everyone.

“We expected a short hospice time with him, and even a few days in comfort would be worth it to me,” Chrissy said. “Instead he has given me 13 months and going strong!”

Seymour transformed from an unloved and mistreated pet to a beloved member of Chrissy’s family in a single day, and the adorable senior dog was in disbelief at his good fortune.

“Seymour is the best there ever was,” Chrissy said. “His heart is so kind. He is everyone’s best friend.”

Seymour has been a part of Chrissy’s family for more than a year, and she is thankful for him every day. Although he had a difficult life, he now understood the meaning of love, and his family is resolved to treasure every second they have left with him.

“I was there just at the right moment and our hearts were absolutely meant to be,” Chrissy said.
